LAND PRESERVE Possums Welcome has their eye on a beautiful piece of 11 acre open space and hopes to acquire this property to preserve it's natural beauty and critical habitat for the species that live there. This property is bordering Marin Open Space and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. I thought this would be a great corridor between the two properties because Possums Welcome would make sure the wildlife are protected.
A very small portion of this area will be used as a community educational retreat area and there will be a portion of the area for people to meet a few ambassadors from factory farms. Other than that, the rest of the space will be allotted to preserving the natural space and planting the forage necessary to support the vulnerable species in our environment today.
This is just an idea, but I am also looking further west in Marin to see if there is land to lease or buy to help the Tule Elk. Currently, the National Park Service is only leasing land to Dairy farmers, so unfortunately, I don't think that a nonprofit with the intention and mission of preserving the land (and not breed animals) qualifies to lease federal lands. I will look into it more and get back to you on my findings.
